What Is the Preparation Course for the IELTS Test?

It is a course whose aim is to prepare students for the IELTS test. It will be based on the use of the most up-to-date information available on IELTS. This course is not an English language course per se. Its purpose is to help students who have already obtained intermediate to advanced levels of English to strengthen their communicative skills in English. Activities will focus not on learning about English (grammar), but on the communication and practicing skills and strategies necessary to use English in an English speaking academic environment.

These courses will provide preparation for the four papers of the Academic and General Modules of the IELTS examination: i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Through these courses which may range from one to six semesters depending on your performance in the placemen exam and your language background, the candidates will analyze and practice the language skills and exam techniques required to perform to a high standard in each of these exam sections. Individual feedback on written and spoken performance is provided focusing on use of vocabulary, range and accuracy of grammar and pronunciation skills. The last three semesters mainly focus on doing practice tests and simulating real exam conditions. Moreover, through some IELTS Mock exams, the candidates can evaluate themselves in terms of time and stress management, and performance in complete tests before sitting for the real exam.

What Is the IELTS Test?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (IELTS) is a test that measures English language proficiency. It is usually taken by those who are interested in applying to colleges or universities where English is the language of instruction, and where the IELTS score is used to help admissions staff determine if the applicant’s skills in English are adequate for enrollment in the chosen program of study. The IELTS test is administered in over 180 countries including Iran, and it is also the most accepted test in the world in addition to TOEFL. Students can use the test to study in universities in the United Kingdom and other European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Turkey, in addition to the United States and Canada. The IELTS test is jointly designed and administered by the British Council, Cambridge University, and IDP IELTS Australia. The IELTS test measures all four language skills that are important for effective communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In particular, IELTS emphasizes the student’s ability to use English effectively in academic settings.

There are two versions of the IELTS test: the Academic Module and the General Training Module. Every test has four parts, each testing a different skill: listening, reading, writing and speaking. However, the reading and writing tests are different for the Academic and General Training candidates. All candidates take the same listening and speaking modules.

The Academic Module

This version has been developed for students seeking entry to a university or institution of higher education offering degree and diploma courses.

The General Training Module

This version has been developed for students seeking entry to a secondary school, a practical or vocational training course, or for people taking the test for immigration purposes.
